The Mountain Parka is a pertinent example of Monitaly’s careful attention to detail and engineered fitting. The jacket has been part of Monitaly’s Fall/Winter collection for over a decade. It features the most iconic detail – the black COBRA™ quick release buckle. It’s the safest, most finely crafted, and strongest load bearing buckles available anywhere in the world. All COBRA™ quick releases are machined from the highest grade 7075 aluminum alloy and feature solid brass and stainless steel components. Besides that, several well-crafted design features, such as raglan sleeve construction, underarm gussets and shoulder pleats, work in conjunction to keep the Mountain Parka mobility-friendly despite its substantial weight as a water-resistant outer layer. The jacket boasts a total of six exterior pockets; a patch gusseted pocket on right chest, a vertical zipper welt pocket on left chest, two large-sized gusted pockets at the torso, and two pockets on the back. The right chest pocket is equipped with a penholder opening on the pocket flap for practical uses. The two pockets at the torso can be accessible in two ways; storage from the top opening and hand-warmer from the side entry. All the pockets get double needle top stitch with sturdy thick thread. At the top of the front zipper closure, wool zipper guard is attached to avoid the discomfort of metal zipper touching your skin in cold weather. There is a waist belt made out of self waxed cotton fabric with a military-spec buckle closure – the COBRA™ quick release buckle. Snap fasteners are “DOT” brand, which is made by Scovill Co here in the U.S.A. All snap fasteners are set with vegetable-tanned leather washers that have been skived (sliced) to get the best thickness for reinforcement.

Waxed cotton is most often used in hunting and fishing garments and is practically water- and wind-proof. There are several options to choose from in the market, but we chose this domestically-produced American waxed cotton because the fabric goes through a unique process to apply wax. Wax is impregnated into yarn with a special technique that has been passed down from generation to generation at the company. Waxed cotton fabric treated with this special technique has much less wax migration problem without sacrificing its functionality. Simply speaking, they apply wax on yarn, not the surface of fabric. It is much more difficult and labor intense that way, but the result is satisfactory. The more you take care of the wax cotton fabric, the appearance of the wax cotton fabric will be more nicely aged and you can enjoy the aging process over years.
Size & Fit:
Fits a bit small to size. We recommend ordering one size up, so that you can wear a sweater or fleece without snug fit inside. When you get your normal size, you will still enjoy the jacket with lightweight inner garments, such as a cotton shirt or a long sleeve t-shirt.
